Manga Giveaway: Gantz Giveaway

It’s time for another manga giveaway! In honor of the recent premiere of the first of two Gantz live-action films, I am giving away a brand new copy of Hiroya Oku’s Gantz, Volume 1 from Dark Horse. The contest is open world-wide, but Gantz is most definitely a mature title so you must be over the age of eighteen to enter.

I was fortunate enough to be able to see the world premiere of Gantz at one of my local theaters. The manga series (still ongoing) is currently up to thirty volumes in Japan and the fifteenth volume was released in English by Dark Horse earlier this month. That’s a lot of material to fit into two films and obviously since the manga is still being published some things are going to be a bit different. It has its problems, but overall the first film was a fairly decent distillation of the manga; I’m interested in seeing how things are wrapped up in the second film.

So, you may be wondering, how can you win a copy of Gantz, Volume 1?

1) In the comments section below, name a manga with a live-action adaptation (that hasn’t been mentioned yet).
2) Tell me about a manga that you would love (or hate) to see receive a live-action treatment.
3) If you’re on Twitter you can earn a bonus entry by tweeting about the contest. Make sure to include a link to this post and @PhoenixTerran (that’s me).

One person can earn up to three entries for this giveaway. The winner will be randomly chosen and announced on February 2, 2011. You’ve only got one week to submit your entries. Good luck!

VERY IMPORTANT: Include some way that I can contact you. This can be an e-mail address, link to your website, Twitter username, or whatever. If I can’t figure out how to get a hold of you and you win, I’ll just draw another name.

  1. 1. Ooku: The Inner Chambers. Kazunari Ninomiya was in this live action movie too and totally failed at conveying the rich emotions of the Fumi Yoshinaga manga. It was a total travesty…

    2. I would really love to see Monster get a live action TV series or something because it’d be a great show. If done right, it could be a lot like 24. It’s a very suspenseful and emotional manga!

    3. Totally retweeted.

  2. Death Note has a live action movie.
I read on a site that Warner Brothers was granted the rights to do a Bleach movie, I think this could be tragic. For one thing they were unsure of using Asian actors and I have to say that most of the movies remade from Japanese to American audiences have not been that great. I think Hollywood goes to the wrong place. sometimes I believe you have to love or know a material to make it great, or a least appreciate it’s fanbase.

  3. 1. Nana. Both live action films were kinda meh but I watched them nonetheless mainly for my love of the anime.

    2. I would love for Black Butler to get a live action film adaptation, in 3D! I wouldn’t mind Sebastian being all up in my grill with dinnerware :)

  4. 1. Cromartie High School has a live action movie. I really need to watch that soon. :O

    2. Depending on how it’s done, I would either love or hate to see a live action adaptation of Hayate the Combat Butler. It probably wouldn’t transition very well, given the nature of the series…

  5. 1: Lovely Complex has a live action adaptation. I haven’t had a chance to see it but it’s supposed to be very true to the manga.

2: I’d probably like to see Soul Eater or Fullmetal Alchemist get a live action adaptation just to see what would be done with it really. Haha

3: I tweeted about the competition.

  6. Oh sure, I’ll play:

    1) I’ve watched the Uzumaki live action movie twice, showing it to two different other people. They try hard, but it just can’t capture the creepiness of the original manga.

    2) A little obscure, but I think Jormungard would work well as an action picture. Get the right teen actor and it could be a strong dramatic picture.

    3) I tossed a tweet out there, too.

  7. 1. Lone Wolf and Cub
    2. Blade of the Immortal (would have very cool fight scenes)
    3. Will go tweet now (from @animesavvy)

  8. Dragonball has a live action

I would hate to see a Live action Gravitation, its my favorite and they would ruin it

    will retweet

  9. Sailor Moon has a live action version. I thought it was hilarious.

I would hate to see a live action One Piece. There is no way that would ever turn out well.

  10. 1) The josei series Tramps Like Us aka Kimi Wa Pet has a pretty good live action adaptation.

    2) I’d like to see a live action version of Dengeki Daisy.
