Manga Giveaway: Love at Fourteen Giveaway

January is almost over so here it is, Experiments in Manga’s first manga giveaway of the year! Let’s get right to it: For this giveaway you will all have the opportunity to enter for a chance to win Love at Fourteen, Volume 1 created by Fuka Mizutani and published in English by Yen Press. And, as always, the giveaway is open worldwide!

Love at Fourteen, Volume 1

Had I been thinking about it thematically, a giveaway for Love at Fourteen—a sweet and somewhat nostalgic story of first love—would have been nicely suited for a February or March giveaway because of Valentine’s Day or White Day, respectively. Then again, my love of manga and my love of spreading that love cannot be contained or limited to a single month! Looking at it that way, and following a peculiar train of logic, a manga giveaway featuring a love story would be more than appropriate any time of the year. Thus, Love at Fourteen! Because, why not?

So, you may be wondering, how can you win Love at Fourteen, Volume 1?

1) In the comments below, tell me a little about your favorite manga love story. (If you don’t have one, simply mention that!)
2) If you’re on Twitter, you can earn a bonus entry by tweeting, or retweeting, about the contest. Make sure to include a link to this post and @PhoenixTerran (that’s me).

And there you have it! Each giveaway participant can earn up to two entries and has one week to submit comments. Entries can also be emailed directly to me at phoenixterran(at)gmail(dot)com if needed or preferred. I will then post the comments here in your name. The giveaway winner will be randomly selected and announced on February 3, 2016. Best of luck to you all!

VERY IMPORTANT: Include some way that I can contact you. This can be an e-mail address in the comment form, a link to your website, Twitter username, or whatever. If I can’t figure out how to get a hold of you and you win, I’ll just draw another name.

My favorite romance manga is Kare Kano. I came to know this manga through the anime, which I immensely enjoyed. I then read the manga to finish the story. This is not your typical romance story, as it goes deep into the characters. The darkness covered by the story was also unusual for its time. All in all, it is worth the read. Sadly it is difficult to get copies, but your library is your best friend.

  2. “Kimi wa Petto” aka Tramps Like Us (still dumb title, forever is!) somehow really hit that spot for me. Maybe because venturing away from the shoujo-fluff into josei at the time..

I really don’t have a favorite title -more like can’t decide on one- but I do have 2 types of love stories that I can’t not read:
1)the type that features the 2 characters cutely, sweetly and clumsily growing closer [e.g Horimiya (shounen), Futari no Renai Shoka (Seinen) and Game over (Josei)]

2)A good tragedy (the most memorable example would be “Watashitachi no Shiawase na Jikan”)

I think I’m always looking for the manga that revolves mostly around the main characters and how they are getting closer….

  4. Unrequited love stories like Last Game and many shounen-ai/yaoi manga are my absolute favorite. I think it’s so sweet to see the relationship grow from nothing to friendship to requited love. Brings tears to my eyes every time.

Kamisama Kiss is my fav love story manga

  6. Could anything be better than the straight up diabetes that is My Love Story? No, it can’t be. The pages of the manga are literally made out of sugar (I tasted a page, it’s real sugar!) I just love how it’s proof that you don’t need love triangles for the purpose of pointlessly complicating things and adding forced drama, you can just make the entire thing out of buttercream frosting and everyone will love it even more.

  7. I wouldn’t call it a love story but I’m sure other people would so I’m going to mention a title that’s on my mind right now, Orange. It just came out in English and having read most of it on CR I can say that it’s just a really really good story about high school and character drama!
    And I RT’ed you @wanderindreamr as per usual. :P

  8. Strobe Edge will forever be my favourite manga love story. The story is just so adorable and some scenes really tug at the heartstrings as well. All the characters are likeable, and a story that should have ended up generic, was delightfully fresh! I love it to bits (still wishing an anime comes out for it, but I don’t have much hope sobs)

  9. I would say My Love Story is my favorite romance since it’s one of the very few romantic stories that I specifically like because of the romance rather than despite it.

  10. Right now, I’d say that my favorite is 3AM Dangerous Zone – I identify so much with the life of the heroine and the way she finds love. It’s not in any way anyone ever imagines it will be and even in it’s ordinariness and in the way in which she worried she’d have to compromise her ideals, it’s still fantastic and magical and crazy and occasionally sucky. A fantastic read.

  11. My favourite love manga is probably… Last Game!
My friend Mei recommended this manga to me and it is amazing so far! ^.^
Yanagi’s dad is a president of a large hotel, he himself is handsome and clever, always wins the favour among girls. Moreover, he’s always on the top of class and champions in all sports meetings when he was in primary school. But after he met Kujou, a transferred student, he had never savored the taste of victory in any single match with this girl for ten years. “Let’s bid for final victory, Kujou.” There here comes the last game. Will Yanagi fall in love with Kujou while he hates his competitor but cares so much about this girl?

I don’t really use it but I will get the alert!

I absolutely love Horimiya! It is different than the typical shoujo manga. I mean yeah popular girl and a unnoticed guy is common-ish, but Hori is the most amazing female protagonist! She’s strong and sure of yourself, but very fragile. She’s a beautiful S and at the same time M. The relationship between Hori and Miyamura is so beautiful. They’re like best friends, but obvious in being lovers. It’s funny, cute, has great art, and always touches my heart.

  13. I don´t really have any favorite one :S

  14. I’ve really been enjoying Kaoru Mori’s Emma. I came to it mostly because of her exquisite art, but I have been enjoying the love story aspect of it as well.
