Manga Giveaway: World Trigger Giveaway

February’s a short month, so it’s already time for another manga giveaway at Experiments in Manga! For this giveaway, participants will have the chance to win not one, but two volumes of Daisuke Ashihara’s World Trigger as published in English by Viz Media. Why? Because it’s the second month of the year, or something. (Really, it’s mostly because I just felt like it.) Anyway, as always, the giveaway is open worldwide!

World Trigger, Volume 1World Trigger, Volume 2

Parallel worlds, dimensions, and universes provide interesting narrative opportunities for creators to explore. In some instances the worlds remain parallel and separate, allowing for multiple realities to exist simultaneously. But in some stories, like World Trigger, those separate realities end up crashing together. Either approach can be equally fascinating, though invasion scenarios like those found in World Trigger do perhaps lend themselves to more action-oriented tales.

So, you may be wondering, how can you win the first two volumes of World Trigger?

1) In the comments below, tell me a little about your favorite manga that makes use of parallel worlds. (If you don’t have one, or haven’t read one, simply mention that.)
2) If you’re on Twitter, you can earn a bonus entry by tweeting, or retweeting, about the contest. Make sure to include a link to this post and @PhoenixTerran (that’s me).

It’s as easy as that! Each participant has one week to submit comments and can earn up to two entries for this giveaway. Comments can also be emailed directly to me at phoenixterran(at)gmail(dot)com if preferred or if you have difficulty with the form. The comments will then be posted here in your name. The giveaway winner will be randomly selected and announced on March 2, 2016. Good luck!

VERY IMPORTANT: Include some way that I can contact you. This can be an e-mail address in the comment form, a link to your website, Twitter username, or whatever. If I can’t figure out how to get a hold of you and you win, I’ll just draw another name.

  1. Totally gonna have to go with Higurashi-When They Cry. Such awesome, but I don’t want to explain much, for those who haven’t seen or read it yet.

My favorite overall thing with parallel worlds though? Rick & Morty

  2. Joseph Miller says

Haven’t had a chance to read a manga focused on parallel worlds, but I really enjoy anime based on this premise… so I’ll have to check a few of the suggestions made on this post.

Anime-wise, I’d say Clannad, Madoka Magica, and Blast of Tempest are favorites of mine.

  3. If I had to choose a manga where parallel worlds are presented my favourite is Pandora Hearts, the influence of the Abbys in the real world or the great importance it had in the past.
No doubt I love so much this manga.

  4. I can’t think of many manga I’ve read about parallel worlds, so I guess I have to go with Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicles. The plot is confusing and a mess by the end, but the characters are likable enough and the art pretty enough that I still ended up really enjoying it.

  5. I really enjoyed Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicles. I’m a big fan of Clamp, and I love how each of their parallel worlds felt like a re-imagining of worlds from other CLAMP stories.

  6. I haven’t read any manga with parallel worlds but I have watched a couple anime with that premise. My favourite would Digimon! Having watched that as a child, it’s definitely near and dear to my heart. I’ve also played some games with a parallel world premise the Persona series comes to mind.

  7. I’ve been thinking about this all day and discarding all sorts of series as being either “not quite parallel, she literally traveled off planet” or “nope, she went into a historical fiction… thats not a parallel, is it??” , and the forerunner in my mind is
    Steins;Gate!
It is kinda time-travel loops, but even the chara within that series attempts to explain it as parallel worlds

  8. Does NAGATO YUKI-CHAN count? Because it’s a parallel world of a fictional world, but it’s just so goshdarn cute…

  9. Blackthornhiei says

Hmmm… favorite manga with parallel worlds.

Would Katekyo Hitman Reborn count? I mean, the 10 Year Bazooka would create alternate timelines/parallel worlds every time it was used, and Byakuran could share experiences and thoughts with his selves in all the parallel worlds.

  10. My favorite manga involving parallel dimensions is actually a bit of a spoiler, so I’ll rot13 it: Shgher Qvnel. It’s one last, audaciously dumb twist in a series full of them (I can only really describe this book as “Death Note, but dumber and louder”), but I’d be lying if I said I didn’t love this trashy, goofy series.

  11. Mohamed Ashraf says

I don’t remember that I read a manga with parallel universes…well…maybe, I did but it never left much of an impression.
Even though, SciFi is one of my favorite genre when it comes to shows & books (^_^)

  12. Orange is BY FAR my most favorite manga with a parallel universe. I cant even describe the series well enough!! The events in both PU’s had me going the entire time. (I actually cried.)

For some reason, I’m having difficulty getting a link to my re-tweet (keeps linking back to your post https://twitter.com/phoenixterran/status/703693900897230849 ) but I DID re-tweet that one @zenpeye .

  13. The best manga for me involving parallel dimension is Kyousogiga. I love this manga… Kyousogiga is awesome!!!t XD

  14. Ash Nguyen says

The best parallel worlds are from Pandora Hearts. It’s so confusing to many people when they try to read it, but if they try to give it another chance and be open minded it shows such a beautiful tragedy that really the artist doesn’t hold back with the feels.

  15. James Berg says

I haven’t read any manga that deals with parallel worlds, but I did really enjoy Steins;Gate and I love Digimon. (Steins;Gate could count because of alternate timelines and Digimon could count because almost every season takes place in an alternate reality.) I’m not sure these count, but otherwise I can’t think of any I have read or watched. Of course, that doesn’t mean I wouldn’t love to read one! :)
