Manga Giveaway: Sherlock Bones Giveaway Winner

Sherlock Bones, Volume 1And the winner of the Sherlock Bones manga giveaway is…Serene!

As the winner, Serene will be receiving a copy of Yuma Ando and Yuki Sato’s Sherlock Bones, Volume 1 as published by Kodansha Comics. Because Sherlock Bones features a rather unusual detective—Sherlock Holmes reincarnated as a puppy—for this giveaway I was interested in learning more about other people’s favorite detectives and unusual crime solvers. Manga Giveaway: Sherlock Bones Giveaway

The end of October is fast approaching, which means it’s time for another manga giveaway at Experiments in Manga! I’m not entirely sure why, but my review of the first volume of Yuma Ando and Yuki Sato’s manga series Sherlock Bones is by far one of the most frequently visited posts at Experiments in Manga. It’s been more than a year since Kodansha Comics published the volume in English, but the review still gets plenty of page hits. And so, for this month’s giveaway, I decided that I would give people the chance to read the actual manga. As always, the giveaway is open worldwide!

I was honestly surprised by how much I enjoyed Sherlock Bones. The premise is inherently silly—Sherlock Holmes reincarnated as a puppy—but perhaps in part because of that, the series can be a lot of fun. Sherdog is tremendously smart, despite occasionally being distracted by his more canine tendencies, and he’s cute, too. But probably most important for a detective and mystery series like Sherlock Bones, the crimes and how they are solved are consistently interesting. Additionally, readers who want to have a more interactive reading experience can actually search for and find the clues needed to solve the crimes within the pages of the manga.

So, you may be wondering, how can you win a copy of Sherlock Bones, Volume 1?

Manga Giveaway: Triton of the Sea Giveaway Winner

Triton of the Sea, Volume 1And the winner of the Triton of the Sea manga giveaway is…Haley S.!

As the winner, Haley will be receiving a copy of the first omnibus in Osamu Tezuka’s series Triton of the Sea. About a year ago, I came to the realization that I had read quite a few manga that featured merfolk of one sort or another. And so for this giveaway, I was interested in learning about all of the mermaids and mermen that other people had come across while reading manga. Manga Giveaway: Triton of the Sea Giveaway

The end of the month is almost here which means it’s time for another manga giveaway at Experiments in Manga! For this giveaway, participants will have the chance to win a copy of the first omnibus in Osamu Tezuka’s Triton of the Sea as published by Digital Manga. (The omnibus contains the first half of the series!) And, as always, the giveaway is open worldwide.

I think it was when I finished Satoshi Kon’s Tropic of the Sea that I realized just how many manga I had read that included merfolk of one sort or another. Triton of the Sea is just one of many. Every creator seems to have a slightly different take on mermaids and mermen, which I find to be particularly fascinating. Some draw upon Eastern traditions, some are influenced by Western legends, and some freely incorporate elements from a variety of different sources, including their own personal imaginings.

Manga Giveaway: Nana Giveaway Winner

Nana, Volume 1And the winner of the Nana Giveaway is…Jocilyn!

As the winner, Jocilyn will be receiving a copy of Ai Yazawa’s Nana, Volume 1 as published by Viz Media. Nana is a fantastic series that, for whatever reason, took me two tries to really get into, but then I was hooked. I was curious to know if other readers ever gave a manga or series a second chance and what their experiences were. Most, but not all, of those who commented were willing to try a manga a second (or even third!) time.
