There were a few more spontaneous buys in August than there were in September, but for the most part I was still able to mostly limit myself to preorders and out-of-print items found at a huge discount. Hopefully this is a trend that I can continue. I haven’t read it yet, but I recently discovered and acquired Yoshikazu Yasuhiko’s color manga Joan. I also picked up a couple more out-of-print volumes of Lone Wolf and Cub, which means there’s only one more hard-to-find volume that I need to look for (Volume 27, if you’d like to know). The manga release I was most excited about in August was Vertical’s first omnibus volume of Osamu Tezuka’s Message to Adolf. Adolf was originally published in English by Viz Media but that edition has been long out of print. As far as I can tell Adolf was most liketly the first manga that I ever read (borrowed from a library), so I’m thrilled to finally have a copy of my own. But my biggest score in August? I was able to put together a complete set of the JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure OVAs well below cover price. This isn’t actually a big deal for most of the volumes, but Volume 4 in particular has been going for outrageous amounts. I was very happy to finally find a copy that I didn’t have to sell a kidney for.
