Manga Giveaway: Mushishi Madness

It’s that time again—time for another manga giveaway! This month I have a nice copy of Yuki Urushibara’s Mushishi, Volume 6 available. The giveaway is open world-wide, so if you’re interested in a chance to win some free manga, read on!

Mushishi is one of my favorite manga that I’ve recently come across. Fortunately, the entire series has been published in English by Del Rey Manga. Although there are a couple of recurring characters in addition Ginko, the protagonist, the story is primarily episodic. This means you don’t really have to start with the first volume. So, if you’ve never read Mushishi, don’t be discouraged by the fact that I’m giving away the sixth collected book!

Mushishi, Volume 6 contains the stories “Heaven’s Thread,” “The Chirping Shell,” “The Hand That Pets the Night,” “Under the Snow,” and “Banquet in the Farthest Field.” I felt Mushishi was an appropriate giveaway for the month of October with Hallowe’en and all the harvest festivals and celebrations coming up—the stories can be rather creepy, and there’s a lot of nature imagery. It’s filled with all sorts of wonderful folklore and pseudosciencey goodness.

So, you may be wondering, how can you win a copy of Mushishi, Volume 6?

1) In the comments section below, tell me about one of your favorite creepy or supernatural manga.
2) If you’re on Twitter you can earn another entry by tweeting about the contest. Make sure to include a link to this post and @PhoenixTerran (that’s me).

There you go! One person can earn up to two entries for the giveaway. The winner will be randomly chosen and announced on Wednesday, September 27, 2010—so you’ve only got one week to get your entries in this time.

VERY IMPORTANT: Include some way that I can contact you. This can be an e-mail address, link to your website, Twitter username, or whatever. If I can’t figure out how to get a hold of you and you win, I’ll just draw another name.

  1. Pet Shop of Horrors is my fav supernatural manga <3 sometimes it's rather creepy too xD it's mostly episodic, like Mushishi, but a few side characters appear in almost every chapter (mainly Count D's pets xD) and there is a larger subplot too.
the main reason why I love PSoH is the main character – Count D <33 he's mysterious, charming, a bit (or very :P) weird and sometimes kinda evil too xD and his 'pets' *_* I don't know how Matsuri Akino comes up with so many marvelous creatures <3 and her art is really beautiful ^_^

  2. My favorite is Dororo. While it’s technically a samurai action manga, it includes several horrific monsters and scenes, particularly the opening sequence that details Dororo’s origin.

Moreover, it deals with themes of human suffering and cruelty, which are as creepy as any monster.

Neat giveaway idea! You can contact me at brent@otakunovideo.net.

  4. I have lots of favorite supernatural manga, but my favorite that adds creepy to the supernatural is Taimashin: The Red Spider Exocist. Hideyuki Kikuchi comes up with some great creepy looking monsters, and some really creepy moments with them. It’s a great series for horror fans.

  5. hmmm…fav supernatural manga u say?! /=] ill go with “Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle” then..^_^
well it isnt rly a horror manga.. but its creepy half of the time…
but on the other hand it has very beautiful “world” of the fantasy.. the supernatural stuff..
I just love the art, how they drew all those gothic clothes for example…
or the moment when Syaoran (the mainc protagonist) stands outside in the rain with his flame familiar..that image is imprinted into my mind XDDD… a very strong feeling put into a manga frame ^^’
