Manga Giveaway: Have Some Hetalia

I’m not entirely sure how it happened, but I ended up with two copies of Hetalia: Axis Powers, Volume 2 by Hidekaz Himaru. So, for my manga giveaway this month, one lucky person will get to take advantage of my blunder! As always, the contest is open world-wide.

There are many, many anime that started out as manga. Sometimes the adaptations are great, sometimes they’re terrible, and sometimes they end up being a side story or something entirely different from the original. When it comes to Hetalia, the anime is a very close adaptation of the original series. Although I enjoy both versions, I tend to prefer the anime slightly more in this case. I don’t know, maybe it’s the great voice actors. Either way, I find both the anime and manga to be ridiculous fun.

So, you may be wondering, how can you win a copy of Hetalia: Axis Powers, Volume 2?

1) In the comments section below, tell me about an anime adaptation of a manga that you love (or hate).
2) Tell me about a manga that you would love (or hate) to see made into an anime.
3) If you’re on Twitter you can earn a bonus entry by tweeting about the contest. Make sure to include a link to this post and @PhoenixTerran (that’s me).

One person can earn up to three entries for this giveaway. You have one week enter the contest. The winner will be randomly selected and announced on March 2, 2011. Good luck!

VERY IMPORTANT: Include some way that I can contact you. This can be an e-mail address, link to your website, Twitter username, or whatever. If I can’t figure out how to get a hold of you and you win, I’ll just draw another name.

  1. Death Note’s anime adaptation was fantastic! So much more emotion with Light, and ALL THOSE MEMES!

I ended up reading the Eureka Seven manga, so I could expose myself to the series faster. Turns out, the manga is a summary of sorts. When your first experience is the summary, you really lose…everything. At least I’ve forgotten the ending now :O

  2. I surprisingly found the anime version of Princess Princess to be much more enjoyable than the actual manga . . . I think because it features more Mikoto, my all around fave character.

If I could choose a manga to be turned into an anime then I’d go with Afterschool Charisma. It has just the right mix of humor and drama and bizarre historical clone figures to make a fascinating series.

  3. I have to say Ookiku Furikabutte as an anime adaptation. The art in the manga is unique, but I love how the anime smoothed it out. Plus, it’s in color! The best part though is seeing all the characters animated! I laughed so many times at the characters antics.

As for a manga I’d love to see as an anime… Oh, Until Death Do Us Part! That manga is amazing.

I can’t really think of an anime adaptation I hate or a manga I’d hate to see as an anime, but the Skip Beat! anime wasn’t near as fun as the manga, and the One Piece anime art wasn’t as cool as the manga art.

  4. I LOVE the Lovely Complex anime adaptation! It was soo cuute~!

And as for a manga, i’d say ‘Faster than a Kiss’. That would be just lovely~!

  5. Oh my gosh!! I would love to have a manga of Hetalia!!!

My favortie anime adaptation is Fruits Basket!!

And i would like the manga Happy Ice cream to be adapted to anime!!!

  6. I can’t figure out how they managed to turn Kekkaishi from a fun, definitely above average shounen manga into a cutesy, poorly paced anime adaptation. It’s really too bad, because now people who haven’t read the manga first judge it based on the anime.

On the other hand, Hiromu Arakawa’s brilliant manga Full Metal Alchemist was turned into *two* incredible and unique adaptations, and many fans love all three versions of the story!

As for what I’d like to see animated, I have a huge wishlist! I am currently reading the shojo action/adventure fantasy classic “Basara” by Yumi Tamura, and all I can think while I read it is how awesome it would be animated! It is tightly plotted and has great characters. I’m pretty sure that with the right adaptation, it could be a modern hit!

  7. My favortie anime adaptation is Naruto. I also like K-on! It was very cuuute~!! Though the manga was cute too…but still xD

And i think i would like Arisa to turn into an anime! That would be neat~!

  8. I like Ranma 1/2 anime better than the manga.

A manga I would love to be turned into anime would be MPD Psycho actually, but I wonder if they could get it right, and since it isn’t even over..

I tweete about this, don’t know how to prove it or if I even have too XD
