Manga Giveaway: Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid Giveaway

It’s the last Wednesday of March and you know what that means! It’s once again time for a giveaway at Experiments in Manga! This month you all have the opportunity to win the first volume in Coolkyousinnjya’s surprisingly sweet and charming manga series Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid as published in English by Seven Seas. And as usual, the giveaway is open worldwide.

Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid, Volume 1

Ever since I was little, I’ve loved dragons. While I’m not quite as obsessed with them as I once was, I’ve never grown out of my affection for dragons. And so when there’s a manga series that features dragons in some way–like Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid–I can’t help but give it a try. I’ll admit, despite my established interest in dragons, I was initially a little wary of Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid and was surprised by how much I enjoyed the first volume. The series has a few missteps, but overall it’s great fun and has some fantastic characters. And with the anime adaptation that’s currently airing, even more people are now aware of the charms of Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid. Hopefully as a result they’ll be encouraged to seek out the original, too!

So, you may be wondering, how can you a copy of the Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid, Volume 1?

1) In the comments below, tell me a little about one of your favorite dragons from a manga. (If you don’t have a favorite or don’t know of any, simply mention that.)
2) If you’re on Twitter, you can earn a bonus entry by tweeting, or retweeting, about the contest. Make sure to include a link to this post and @PhoenixTerran (that’s me).

It’s as easy as that! Participants in the giveaway have one week to submit comments and can earn up to two entries. If you have trouble with the comment form, or if preferred, entries can also be sent directly to phoenixterran(at)gmail(dot)com. I will then post those comments here in your name. The giveaway winner will be randomly selected and announced on April 5, 2017. Best of luck to you all!

VERY IMPORTANT: Include some way that I can contact you. This can be an e-mail address in the comment form, a link to your website, Twitter username, or whatever. If I can’t figure out how to get a hold of you and you win, I’ll just draw another name.

Hi I have almost read a 1,000 books in my life time and most of them are manga. I love dragons my favorite at the moment is the main character in a manga called Two Flowers for one dragon. It’s about two men that are trying to win a girl can turn into a Dragan’s heart.
I love th Magic and love in this story.

  2. Can’t go wrong with the classics, Dragon Ball is my pick!

  3. 1…not gonna say DragonBall not gonna say DragonBall….
Honlon from Petshop of Horrors! She’s a 3 headed dragon no less, and the entire series being a sorta weird combo of fantastic art & Tales from the Crypt was soooo good (someone needs to license rescue this)

  4. JoshuaCaleb says

Kanna is the best dragon by far. She’s so adorable and I love how she “recharges” her magic by plugging her tail into an electrical outlet :P

  5. This is my first dragon oriented anime I’ve watched, but I’ve thoroughly enjoyed it. My favorite dragon has got to be Mr. Fafnir. His personality just gives me a good laugh.

  6. Kuro-Henshi says

Favorite dragon is Natsu Dragneel from Fairy Tail. First manga I read, so has some special meaning to me

  7. Adam Lantz says

My favorite dragon from the manga is Lucoa-san, ’cause she’s so sweet.

  8. My favourite dragon is Kanna and Tohru! They are really cute dragons and I love it when the fought each other.

  9. One of my favorite dragons was Volvagia from the Ocarina of Time manga. It gave him more back story a meaning to link, instead of being just a boss.

  10. Cameron Myers says

Lucoa-San all the way. Cheerful, earnest, sexy and intriguing. She tries her very best to live well and enjoy herself after her “demotion”. It’s very inspiring.

  11. Candy Ha says

My favourite dragon in manga is Hatori Sohma from Fruits Basket. He is the Dragon/Seahorse year from the Chinese zodiac. He does not transform into a dragon but he is possessed with the dragon. I really love how he was willing to lose the one he loves just to make her happy again.

  12. If we’re going with Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid, then my favorite dragon is definitely Tohru! I love her outgoing and bubbly personality. She’s not as overbearing as some characters with the same archetype, and I love how funny it is to watch her zealously defend her position as Kobayashi’s maid. She’s kind and cheerful, but her general disdain for humans gives her a sense of humanity that creates a lovely contrast to her thoughts. What’s more, I like watching how we’re given more information about her background as time goes on.

If we’re going with dragons from any manga, then I think my favorite manga dragon is Ddraige from Highschool DxD. He’s one of the two Heavenly Dragons, which makes him the third most powerful dragon in the DxD ranking system. However, he’s been sealed inside of Issei Hyoudo, who’s a complete pervert, so all that power is wasted. I feel sorry for him, but I also find his situation hilarious.

  13. I don’t actually have a favorite dragon. I am fairly new to the manga /anime world.

  14. Well if i have to choose from any manga i was thinking about the dragon that appeart in touma’s arm in To aru majutsu no index/railgun manga ,i now it’s not the full dragon body but it was so amazing the first time i saw it .
And from Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid i choose Elma , i found her really cute in the design and personality .

  15. Goddangit, someone beat me to talking about Two Flowers for the Dragon! So I guess I’ll just say that Yona of the Dawn since it kinda has dragons in it.
RT’d as per usual under @wanderindreamr

  16. Christopher Wisdom says

I love dragons! I guess you can say I have an addiction to them. In addition to the dragon tattoo I’m getting done (from shoulder to wrist), I also have a collection of dragon paraphernalia – everything from a mirror to lamps to toys to figurines and porcelains, tshirts, a tie, plaques and wall hangings, a blanket, Yu-Gi-Oh cards… I’m up to 132 items so far, and I’ve been adding more since I started over 5 years ago. Miss Koboyashi’s Dragon Maid is a great series, and I would ADORE getting the manga! Thanks to whomever is sponsoring this giveaway, you rock!

  17. My fav dragon in manga? I like the nature based dragon designs of Ancient Magus Bride. I think Lindel takes care of them iirc, and when they get old they return to the Earth in the form of rocks or trees?

  18. Yeah, probably going to go with Shenlong from DBZ too. Can’t resist DBZ, it would seem to me.

Another manga involving dragons I don’t think has been mentioned yet is Key to the Kingdom, but I can’t go into much details on that.

  19. I haven’t read any manga that featured dragons, but I have seen the Ms. Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid anime. I am definitely a fan of Tooru.

  20. Hmmm I can’t really think of many dragons in manga, but I do like Caiman from Dorohedoro! He’s a human (?) with a lizard head. He’s such a lovable character and the manga has some awesome messy and incredibly detailed art. 10/10 do recommend if you’re into some dark humor with a splash of adventure and fantasy.

  21. Favorite dragon character… Wow that’s kinda tough to narrow down, but I’ll choose 2 from a couple of classic manga I adore greatly:
Sorata Arisugawa, a Dragon of Heaven, from X/1999 by CLAMP
Izark, the Sky Demon, from From Far Away by Kyoko Hikawa

    RT’d from cgcornett

  22. I love Kanna from maidragon! She’s just SO CUTE! (especially in the anime)

    Also RT on @kpossibles

  23. I actually haven’t read much manga with dragons, but I’ve been watching the Dragon Maid anime and I love all of them so much! Kanna is my favorite though, she’s so cute and sweet and I love her interactions with Tohru and Kobayashi and her interest in learning about the human world. She is absolutely precious and I would adopt her in an instant if I could.

I retweeted your tweet about the contest to my Twitter @letsgomeisei if that’s all right for the second entry

  24. Richard Agullana says

Seriyuu from Fushigi Yuugi and Selece from Magical Knight Rayearth. Both characters have water abilities and they were very interesting to me.

  25. If you consider the four dragons in Yona of the Dawn actual dragons, then my favorite is probably Shin-ah

  26. Lucoa. Ditzy, thicc, curvy, but has a surprising amount of heart & kindness.

  27. I have not read any manga with dragon in it.

  28. Lucoa is my favourite. But only for the thickness, not because she’s a dragon lol
    Retwitted @MauroPellencin

  29. If you consider the ones from Akatsuki no Yona, Kija is my favorite. I love him sooo much. He’s so gentle, kind and polite. At the same time he’s so innocent and like a cinnamon roll.

  30. Kanna from Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid is by far my favorite because she is just so cute (*≧∀≦*) Aside from her being so cute I also loved when she met Miss Kobayashi. I found that extremely entertaining to watch XD

Also I tweeted about your contest on my twitter @_Emilyjewels_

  31. James Berg says

I haven’t read or watched Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid yet, but I plan to because I absolutely love dragons! My favorite non-anime movie is How to Train Your Dragon. I collect dragon figurines and anything else dragon that I can find (and afford). I collect dragon-type Yu-Gi-Oh! cards and I love dragon-type Pokémon. As for anime, my favorite dragonslayer is Natsu and my favorite actual dragon is Igneel. (As you can guess, my favorite anime is Fairy Tail)

  32. BloodyGaikotsu says

Unfortunately, I haven’t read that many manga with dragons.
However, I enjoyed “Seikoku no Doraguna” LN even tho, it’s quite the cliché.
    Eco was fun, after all.

  33. Ah, Mink was my first exposure, back in the innocent days of imported anime’. Dragonball had some pretty nice work as well, and indirectly influenced my using a dragon race in passing in my HAVOC, INC. comic series.

I like what is being done in this new generation of manga. Much more imafginative.

  34. Jennifer Li says

Mink from Dragon Half! I appreciate how funny and bizarre the series was and Mink’s valley girl-ness helped make Dragon Half a hilarious and charming experience.

  35. tbh my favorite dragon’s got to be kanna from maid dragon. Flat (loli) is justice! Can’t forget about d for dragon though :P

  36. I’ve read more than 500 manga in English, and almost zero of those have dragons that haven’t already been mentioned (fantasy is not really my genre?). I did come up with two though.

From Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha StrikerS, ViVid and Force, Caro Ru Lushe’s familiar, Friedrich (or Fried for short) is adorable and fierce. Also, I’m not sure of this actually counts, but Maggie Mui’s Paper Dragon from Read or Dream (probably my favorite ;).

  37. Even though i have read many manga, i can’t remember any of them to have dragons so this would be a great start :D. But from books i like Saphira a lot from Eragon (she is really smart) and Aurene from the game Guild Wars 2 (cutest dragon ever -ok, maybe Kanna is the cutest-).

    Retweet: @lShiinal

  38. Late to the party here. I haven’t read an awful lot of stories with interesting dragons, despite rather liking them, so I’m going to cheat and pick the Natsume’s Book of Friends dragons―Tama and the fuzzballs. Yuki Midorikawa has such a wild and delightful variety of youkai in her series, and it’s fun to see her (usually adorable) spin on them.
